Call for Submissions: Penn State Dickinson Law Review – Spring 2027 Symposium

The Editorial Board of the Penn State Dickinson Law Review (PSDLR) invites legal scholars and practitioners to submit proposals for consideration for its 2027 Symposium entitled “The Future of Work: Legal Perspectives on an Evolving Workforce,” tentatively scheduled to take place on March 19, 2027, in Carlisle, PA. Selected authors will have the opportunity not only to publish their work but also to participate in the Symposium alongside fellow scholars and practitioners engaged in these important discussions.

Over the past two years, the modern workplace has continued to undergo rapid transformation. Advances in artificial intelligence and automation, evolving workforce demographics, shifting economic conditions, and continued globalization of labor have reshaped how work is viewed, performed, and regulated.

Our Symposium seeks to foster an interdisciplinary conversation about the legal challenges and opportunities presented by these developments since 2025. With employment and labor law serving as the cornerstone of the event, we welcome submissions from all areas of legal scholarship that bear on the evolving nature of work and the workplace.

Illustrative topics include, but are not limited to:
• Worker classification and the gig economy
• Immigration and international law
• Constitutional issues affecting the employment relationship
• Wage and hour law
• Workplace health and safety
• Tax and administrative law
• Artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging technologies
• Workplace privacy, surveillance, and data governance
• Disability accommodation and accessibility
• Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
• Employee benefits, retirement, and workforce security
• Collective bargaining and labor organizing
• Remote, hybrid, and flexible work arrangements
• Any other legal issue addressing the changing workforce or workplace

Submission Information

If you are interested in presenting and publishing, please submit a one-page proposal or unpublished paper by Sunday, September 27, 2026, via our Scholastica page or email to DickinsonLRev@psu.edu or Ariana Bignotti at amb8664@psu.edu.

Your submission should include:

  • Abstract. An abstract of approximately 500 to 1,000 words describing the proposed paper;

  • Curriculum Vitae. A current curriculum vitae; and

  • Contact information.

Guidelines for Final Articles

  • File Format. We ask that authors submit documents in Microsoft Word format.

  • Length. We encourage submissions of 15,000 to 30,000 words, including footnotes.

  • Article Format. Articles should be double-spaced and use footnotes, not endnotes.

  • Citations. Citations must conform to the 22nd Edition of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation.

  • Abstract. Please include a short abstract with your submission.

  • Curriculum Vitae. Submissions should contain the author’s curriculum vitae.

Expedite Requests

Expedite requests should include the title of the manuscript, date by which a decision must be made, and the name of the journal from which you have received an offer of publication.
